Description
Kompressor will latch straight onto any XLR equipped microphone, or anywhere else in the signal path between microphone and preamp/mixer. The electronics are housed in a robust metal chassis with a balanced XLR input and output. Kompressor is powered by 48V phantom power.
HOW TO USE
Kompressor adds 25dB of gain, which decreases as more compression is dialed in.
Triton Audio's design features a single knob that adjusts compression levels from Less to More. An orange LED inside the knob indicates when the signal reaches the compression threshold. If the LED flashes, it signifies light to medium compression; a continuously lit LED suggests heavy compression, which can be desirable for specific uses, such as on a drum room mic.
Due to the one-knob design, compression levels will vary depending on the microphone’s output. For example, with a low-output dynamic microphone like the Shure SM7B, the compression effect is more subtle. In contrast, higher-output microphones such as the Shure Beta58 or a Beyerdynamic M88 can trigger more pronounced compression. For really loud sources Triton Audio recommends to use an AirHead.
PROTECTS THE MICROPHONE
Some older ribbon microphones do not tolerate phantom power. Kompressor uses phantom power to power its circuitry, but doesn’t pass phantom power to the microphone, so rest assured your ribbon mics are safe.
